2020 MAMA: ACCEPTANCE SPEECH OF TOP 4 AWARDS

ALBUM OF THE YEAR : BTS <MAP OF THE SOUL : 7 >, presented by James Corden

Member SUGA, who could not make it personally recovering over his shoulder surgery, said his acceptance speech over the phone, “I am actually watching live. I first and foremost want to say thank you to our fans who gave us Album of the Year. This is meaningful because it means that this was the most loved album of the year. We are thankful that a lot of people loved our album. We really worked hard on it in the States. I am working hard to recover, so don’t worry about me. A lot of people have been calling me and telling me that they are enjoying MAMA – even if I am not there – but I am definitely there in spirit. Thank you again – I love you Army.”

WORLDWIDE ICON OF THE YEAR : BTS

In winning Worldwide Icon of the Year, RM of BTS said, “Shout out to our Army all over the world, in your room, in your house… I hope my truth and my mind can convey through this little paper thing [pointing to mask]. As we think of the world, I think about how big the world really is. Of course the world is big but when it comes to music and love, the world is not that big – it’s actually small. Throughout this year, thanks to your love and support, we can feel your love like its right beside us – right in our mind and we are also connected. To our worldwide Army, you made this award, gave this award to us, and I hope that you can stay safe [so we can] meet in person, see each other’s eyes and say we love you to each other ASAP. We love you!”

SONG OF THE YEAR : BTS <DYNAMITE>

RM said “Thank you so much. There so much to say. MAMA was the award ceremony that we really wanted to attend when we were rookies. But now that we are receiving such a big award, it really makes me emotional and I am deeply moved. We did not expect this much love for the song <Dynamite>. Sometimes life is like the song <Dynamite>, and sometimes like the song <Life Goes On>… time will fly and tomorrow will come. We really hope to meet you again soon!”

ARTIST OF THE YEAR : BTS

J-HOPE said, “Big thanks to Army, who is watching at this time. I am truly grateful that we are able to come here each year and perform for you. A lot of things have changed this year, but my gratitude remains constant. Every step BTS takes, every growth along the way – we hear about how great our fans are. I want to stress that our Army is the reason we are able to make this acceptance speech and perform on stage. I don’t say this enough, but I would like to take a moment to thank the rest of the band. Because of you, I was not lonely, or sad – we all did good this year, I love you! Especially SUGA, get well soon – wish you were here, this award is not complete without you.

Jimin added, “I want to say thank you to all our Big Hit family, our family and friends, our fans… We worked especially hard this year, to the point where I can’t remember how it all happen. A lot of complex emotions, sadness, happiness, anger, etc. filled this year – but we made it through. We will be here next year, with our fans.”

V: “I also want to add that we are thankful for our staff, including our managers, who always wake us up, security team, everyone.”
